Open in the planner →Getting there
It is about 26 km and roughly 29 minutes from Yerevan on the app's estimate, a few minutes from the cathedral precinct in Echmiadzin. Parking is on the street outside.
What you see
The church is a domed basilica with four free-standing piers, giving an interior that feels longer and less compressed than Hripsime's. The later porch at the west end shelters tombs and carved slabs. Outside, a cemetery and a few khachkars fill the walled enclosure.
What to pair it with
Combine it with St Hripsime, Shoghakat and the Echmiadzin cathedral complex in a single walk-and-drive circuit.
When to go
Morning or late afternoon, avoiding the pilgrim traffic around midday. Services take priority over visitors on Sundays and feast days.
What is hard about it
It is a twenty-minute stop and closely resembles the other early churches in town. Visitors doing all of Echmiadzin in one go should expect diminishing returns by the third church.
